Games : Why is the crying infected called "The Witch" in the Left 4 Dead series?

I was playing L4D2 on my Xbox 360 today, when my wife asked why the crying special infected is called The Witch, as she doesn't really fit with the cackling, broom riding, pointed hat wearing witch stereotype, nor does she seem to have any other kind of witch "traits" that my wife knew of.

So how did "The Witch" get her name? Why not "The Sobber" or "The Screamer" or something similarly descriptive? Other special infected have descriptive names, like The Tank or The Spitter, so The Witch kind of sticks out.
