Games : Minecraft Forge 1.7.10 Very Unstable! [on hold]

I wanted to create a mods pack to play on my server with. Firstly I created a 1.6.4 modpack as I know it works perfectly and sure enough it did, but then when I went to create the server the forge server file wouldn't run, I have a feeling that they discontinued the old servers so I went to 1.7.2, but I still has the same problem with the server file not wanting to run. Finally as a last resort I decided to go to 1.7.10 and this time the server file ran perfectly, however when I try to install more that 30 mods into the latest version of 1.7.10 forge the game becomes incredibly unstable. It will load up but sometimes it will freeze FOREVER when I press the start button, and if I get passed that part it will freeze on the "downloading terrain" screen, and if i get passed that it will surely freeze as soon as the world loads in. I know its not the mods as I have tried it with completely different mods and as soon as the mods counter in the bottom left of Minecraft crosses 30 the game becomes incredibly unstable. If someone could help me out with this is would really help me out or at least tell me why the old 1.6.4 and 1.7.2 servers no longer run and if there is a was to fix them. Currently my only solution is to only play with below 30 mods until they are updated to 1.8 but I would really like to be able to expand my modpack now!

I am runnng on mac osx yosemite if that makes a difference I know there has been sone problems with java on the latest mac version.
