Games : Dark Souls: Pyromancy or pure melee?

I'm about halfway through Dark Souls, having rung the second bell. I started out with a Pyromancer build intending to make a mixture of melee attacks and pyromancy. In reality, I melee almost exclusively and only use pyromancies as an occasional prop. I only have access to a few, and their limited range makes them of limited use. It may be there are better spells available soon that will make it of more use.

I'm currently using a +9 Claymore, Black Knight Shield and Elite Knight Armour for my "standard" equipment set. I'm soul level 50, with 16 strength, 12 dex and 30 endurance. I may have better armour I should probably be using instead (stone? black and gold?) I play PvE almost exclusively.

I'm unsure as to how I should be building this character from here. For starters, I can't decide whether to "backfill" and upgrade the pyromancy flame and get some more spells or whether to focus on pure melee. I'm not sure how valid missile weapons are as a ranged option if I need them - I killed the shopkeeper in the undead burg by accident early on, so my supply of arrows is extremely limited.

Either way, I'm also not sure whether to build up strength or dex once I've pushed endurance up more toward 40. The Claymore is a good weapon and I'd be happy to keep it, although I don't know where to upgrade it once I reach +10. I also have the Uchigatana (from that self-same shopkeeper) but I haven't tried using it, although I read that dex works well with Pyromancies.

Where should I go from here?
