Games : Do abandoned buildings sort themselves out eventually if you just leave them?

I seem to have a lot of abandoned buildings, I'm working on why but they still seem to be around.

Do abandoned buildings sort themselves out eventually if you just leave them or do I have to demolish them in order for new buildings to build in their place?
