Games : Laptop Gaming: Can't click using touchpad whilst using keyboard

I can use the touchpad & keyboard following the turning off of 'Smart sense'. The problem now is that the only way I can click and run and use the touchpad is to hold down the control key. Without doing this, I can't click but can still run around and use the touchpad. It's not a problem with the game. Please help! Thanks!
